A Twisted Tale of Tax Turmoil

In October, DeRay got a letter asking why he returned his tax refund check.  DeRay told them we never received it; never returned it; so atypically they sent a check for the 2013 taxes without delay. He thought it would be his refund for the 2014 taxes.
He always takes an extension on his taxes, as if April 30 isn’t painful enough.
So now why isn’t his refund here for 2014 taxes?
In refinancing our house, they needed a Summary Report from IRS for 2014 taxes.  “Where’s my refund?” he asked on line. They couldn’t find his taxes.
Diligently, he went over to IRS in Ogden with a copy of last year’s taxes.
“Dad evidently didn’t file his taxes last year,” I say to Amy when she comes home.
“Can he plead senility?” she asks.
“I sincerely hope so.”
We thought he would end up in Tax Evasion Prison. But since they owe us money instead of us owing them money, no penalty; and he’s a free man.
I remember distinctly telling him that he could not go to Vegas for a week with Clare if he didn’t get his taxes in first – his extension, that is. Shows how much clout I have. He says they were probably lost in the mail.
So now he’s ready to figure out how to get his rebate for the solar panels for 2015 taxes.  He invites the representative from Intermountain Wind & Solar to come and walk him through the process and check things out. He’s telling him how amazed he is that we are still generating electricity through all the snow. He’s bragged to Brent about it; he’s bragged to anyone who will listen. He checks his cell phone every day to see how many kilowatt hours have been generated.
“Snow covered panels generate no electricity,” the man says, “Let me check your phone.”
“Is your name William Barlow?  Do you live in Maryland?”
His cell phone was connected to someone’s else solar panels.  Go figure.

Zero kilowatt hours generated for us today or for the whole months of December and the first 2-1/2 weeks in January, for that matter.  Over an inch of snow and no electricity is generated.

Rain & Shine

GREEN SPRING
Never do I remember our hills being so green in the spring. The lavish rains transformed our desert landscape into a lush green carpet. As with Brent and Jan, the power company has never come to inspect so we can switch over to the solar panels and capture the sunshine.

SOLAR PANELS
Copying Brent and Jan, DeRay had solar panels installed on our roof. What do you think? The solar panels cost twice as much as our first house.  We’ll never live long enough to recoup our investment but who’s counting?

We were plum worn out watching the industry from 7:30 AM until dusk.  We’re not used to having 8-10 strange guys in and out, up and down, in the attic, on the roof. DeRay told them he wanted a discount for using his engineering skills to hook up the electricity and place the panels.  They acknowledged his expertize too telling me how much time he saved them and how much more efficient the panels were but, alas, no monetary compensation.

Now my exercise room in the basement is The Control Room,
but who's counting?
