Not Again

We’re gettin’ a new bigger wet vac for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy, Amy, Brooke, and Karlton are mad.
Rain/snow water flooding into the basement
Ain’t nuttin’ but BAD.

amy barely got the new foam pads laid
from the September flood; we prayed.

Rain all day Saturday on top of snow
Two sump pumps faulty

Wouldn’t you know?

Amy awoke at 3 in the morning
She tried to awaken me
“It’s time to start bailing!”
She tried to awaken me
“I can’t keep up
Water’s flowing too fast
Hurry! Hurry! I’m outclassed”
She tried to awaken me.

Seven hours we wet vacced and dumped
If only the sumps had pumped
Water spouting from everywhere.
Allow us to whine ‘cause it’s so unfair.
“Please may we borrow your big wet vac?”
We can’t keep up. Everything’s out of whack.

RaJean and Alan stayed for more than two hours
Frantically fighting before water devours.

Brooke & Karlton bought a new sump pump
The old ones go straight to the dump.
Except for the one kind Alan revived.
Without good neighbors we may not have survived.
(Years ago,
RaJean spent all day cleaning up beet juice, exacting no fee
When the pressure cooker exploded, burning me.)
We’re doing laundry, drying things out
We’re hungry and tired; ready for a drought.

The sad end of this Christmas song -
Come on sing along -
We’re getting a wet vac for Christmas
And two water alarms
‘cause flooding ain’t nuttin’ but bad.
And we’re mad.

Oh yes, DeRay is conveniently out of town
Leaving us alone to drown.
Three sump pumps later,
DeRay and Brooke finally got a system
that moves the water away from the house.
Pipe with holes to drain water.
End of pipe where water drains on lawn.
This is our view of the mountains
the day I took the pictures of the pipes.
Normal view.

Amy Doesn't Mess Around - Part 3

"Is anyone going to help me move the bed and chest?" Amy inquires before we've left our upstairs habitat. It was an hour before DeRay got down to help her move the sauna. But they got it done. I love the foam mats. I can hardly wait to do my exercises in the exercise room and have guests in the guest room.

We'll see how long before it floods again.
DeRay has an idea to keep water out
but he can no longer do it himself.

THANKS AMY.
You did a great job.
Then she fixed dinner.
OK, I did up the dishes
and other chores as assigned
like grating the carrot
and finding the kale and Swiss chard
in the freezer.

Amy Doesn't Mess Around - Part 2

Now the hallway.
She and her dad shopped most of the day on Monday,
coming home with waterproof vinyl stripes.
Thinner.
Costs more.
She cleaned out the hallway and
mopped the floor in Clorox.
 DeRay cut
while she was on her hands and knees
placing and fitting.

 Gnocchi loves her new bed.
She only bought one
but they fought over it
so she bought one for each cat.
It's like Gnocchi has been a displaced cat
all his life.
Now he has a home.

See Jeanette help by anchoring the panel while Amy connected the next one.

 Meanwhile, Gnocchi sleeps on.

 The Team measuring and cutting.

Then we watched our second Churchill movie - Amy, Gnocchi and I.
 Well, two of us watched.

Tonight Amy ordered enough Foam Mats to finish the last two rooms.
Stay tuned for Part 3.

Amy Doesn't Mess Around

Ever since the flood, she has been researching options for the basement floor. She and her Dad shopped for tile, bringing samples home. They decided that with tile, you still have to put something on the floor, it’s very expensive; plus we still don’t have the water problem solved.
She settled on Foam Printed Mahogany Wood Grain Interlocking Anti-Fatigue Flooring Mat. She ordered enough for her room on the Internet. Knowing they were coming on Saturday, she mopped the floor with Clorox and had it dry before they were delivered.

 K'Leena came out to help.
They are on fall break.

With foam mats left-over for her pottery days, she mopped the floor in the exercise/kitchen room and laid those.
DeRay and I would have still been licking our wounds, pretending the floor wasn’t dry yet.
Done.
Then they went shopping,
bringing me home a matching biking outfit.
