I didn’t take many pictures this year.
(So I borrowed some from Brent.)
Every year is the same.
DeRay cooking sour dough hotcakes
and making sour dough biscuits for everyone.
Clare setting up her mountain kitchen
with all the comforts of home.
Karen cooking bacon, eggs, hash browns, and ham
on her gas
stove.
Marilyn visiting.
Norm gathering and chopping wood.
Ron bringing fresh tomatoes, zucchini, peppers from Santa
Clara.
Ed and I riding our trikes.
We don’t hike to the top of the mountain,
around and down
anymore.
Those early morning hikes were my best visits with Karen and
Norm.
Meals are a little later as we get older and more tired.
Instead of our kids racing, it’s the grandkids.
This year they added a dog race.
We liked the dogs because they scared
the pesky squirrels and chipmunks away.
It was a little colder this year, according to Marilyn
who had been in 106-10 degrees heat In Richland, Wash.,
for nearly a month before flying down for the reunion.
Brent, Jan, and girls were the only ones in tents.
Karen, Norm and us in motorhome and trailer
in the Roundup.
Everyone else was in comfy cabins.
Stealing the soul from the reunion;
The heart absent.
It was the pioneer spirit that bound us together
Keeping us close.
Scattered cabins of comfort shatter the concept.
Over 65 years now, the Pughs have been congregating at Duck
Creek
To celebrate family.
Beginning with 12 brothers and sisters orphaned early.
Except for three or four cousin visitors,
Only the Duff Pugh tribe persists.

hj, As is usual, your write-ups are just like being there, and they take us a lot less gas and energy. Thanks. ld
