The Perfect Vacation

1. Close to home. Only an hour away. Perfect for when you forget something, need a doctor, or someone dies.  We've done it all.
2. Exquisite scenery.

DeRay's Watercolor

3. Clean fresh air and water. Amy tells us we need to drink a lot so we won't get altitude sickness. Snowbird has its own pure water system.
4. Warm swimming pool one floor down; Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room; exercise room.
Judy and Eddy have been friends for a long time.

5. Activities, classes: watercolor,

water workout, Tai Chi, Meditation. Demonstrations: cooking; Lectures, Movies with free popcorn!

Sports: tennis, pickleball; Vendors: jewelry, essential oils, cards; Crafts; Games, Guided nature and adventure hikes, personal hikes; Storytelling for all ages.  Potluck lunches.

6. Time. Time to read; time to hike, time to listen to tapes, time to watch movies.

Vera gave me the picture of Jesus when I spent an hour with her again telling me how to make the best of each day.
We watched a movie in the condo each evening.

7. Good food. No restaurants. Just home cooking. I tried something new this year. For four dinners the week before we came, I prepared double and froze one to take to Snowbird. 1) Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes; 2) Cornbread salad; 3) Tuna casserole; 4) Squash soup w/sour cream and roasted pecans. We did sausage gravy over DeRay's delicious sour dough biscuits for one meal, Rotisserie chicken w/fettuccine one night, and Zucchini bake for our last meal. Harvest time: fresh tomatoes, kale, cucumbers, cabbage, beans.
8. Elevators – obviously invented for folks with arthritic knees. We have one unit on Floor 4 and one on Floor 11.
9. Good Company. I love my family.

“Why do you keep a journal?” Amy asks one evening as I write. “You do the same thing at the same time every day,”
   “I don’t see a cougar everyday,” I exclaim.
From the pool, she saw a moose; Pam encountered a badger on the trail and the next day, she saw two deer.  They tell tales of sitting by the dumpster after dark and watching the raccoons.
Amy had a cold when we left. By the end of the week, teaching everyday, with the high altitude and meds, she had a head and stomach ache. We still swam the last day and hiked the handi-trail.
Vera liked to join us for lap swimming each morning at 9.  DeRay and Ed did Water Workout with Judy each morning from 10-11.
I generally went back in the pool with Amy in the evening when she got home from work.

For over twenty years now we've owned a unit at Iron Blosom, Snowbird Resort. It’s sustaining to see our once-a-year friends from everywhere.

hj, Enjoyed going on your vacation with you via your blog. Nature is Nourishing!
A minor point, but you seem to have fixed your camera or got new film. The quaking aspen seem to have mostly yellow leaves. ld

It's true. They were not as red this year and the streams were not running red. Maybe all the iron is out of the soil. More leaves had already fallen so we may have missed the red ones. Peaches, tomatoes, autumn leaves are all early this year - by as much as a month. Explain that Mr. Forest Ranger.
