“What did I forget today?” I muse
as we near the gym.
Recently, in a row
I have
forgotten my water shoes,
Which is the worst.
I didn’t know if I could bear
to walk on those germy floors
barefoot.
My
swim cap.
My
goggles.
My
towel.
“Oh, no.
I forgot my swim suit.”
“You didn’t?
Do you have another one?”
“Yes.
An old rag I keep in my gym bag.”
“That’s smart,” DeRay consoles.
“You have to be smart when you’re dumb,” I
declare.
In my defense, I had two pair of water shoes in my
bag.
