Thanksgiving 2017

Thanksgiving comes in different shapes and sizes.
When we were kids,
we always killed chickens for Thanksgiving
I never had a turkey until we were married.
As far as I can remember,
when we were very small,
it was just our family.
That’s a tableful –
Ten.
Back: Jeanette, Jerry, Lynn James, DeLoy.
Carol Lee, Shirley, Lucy LaRee, Verla
plus Mama and Daddy
Later, the boys brought roommates from
college and in-laws and grandkids and such.
DeLoy's roommate Yin O'Young was with us this year. 1959
He helped my brothers build fence out on the Sand for the rest of the holiday.
The last Thanksgiving in the Old House.
Dances and parties were a big part of the Thanksgiving weekend.
After Thanksgiving one year,
when I was a Sophomore or Junior,
Elaine Chamberlain and I decided we were bored
so we planned a dance.
We made posters and hung them around town.
Beats me how we got the gym and an orchestra.
Fun.
Afterwards we played games at my house
until the wee hours of the morning,
as we did after so many dances.
No parties or dances now.
Just good food and good company.
Amy was out of school on Wednesday
so we went to the spa at Snowbird.
We visited around the fire by the pool with
an old friend of Amy's.
We chatted with her mother in the pool and sauna.
Relaxing and magnificent.
It was a quiet Thanksgiving Day.
Just the four of us.
We walked through the hollow in the morning,
rode trikes and bikes.

Gnocchi fixed his own Thanksgiving dinner.
Then enjoyed a smoked turkey
and fixins with DeRay’s rolls.

Warm wonderful weather.
Brent called in the evening.
Friday, we drove up to Hyrum
to enjoy Verla and Carol’s
scrumptious Thanksgiving left-overs,
Play games,
Laugh
And bring a pumpkin pie home.
Hey, that's a party!
“It’s not even December,” Ed wails
when DeRay put the Christmas tree up on Saturday.
We’ve never been this early
And we may never get it decorated.
Where's Brigitte & Klarissa
when we need them?
They and their brothers
could have the whole house decorated
in a few hours,
including the villages.
Brooke, Elizabeth, and Karlton
spent Thanksgiving week in New York City
where Karlton
marched with the Davis High School Band
in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Davis High School Band 309 Members strong
 Brooke, Elizabeth and Karlton cruising.
 Who's this handsome guy?
This is Karlton's pose.
Each one did his/her own.
At one point,
they broke ranks and high-fived the crowd.
Brooke said the crowd loved it.
He wishes they had done it more.
I thought we would see neither hide nor hair of them
for two weeks.
They averaged less than four hours sleep
each night
Except Thanksgiving day when they had to be
up at 12:30 AM our time
to get to the parade on time.
Sunday surprise:
They invited us over for another
Thanksgiving dinner.
Delicious!
The finale for our Thanksgiving celebration
was going to the movie
Wonder
on $5 Tuesday.
Two women were in front of us to buy tickets.
“Are you going to Wonder?”
“Yes.”
“Two?”
“Three, my husband hasn’t made it yet.”
“Three more,” she says
while her credit card was still in the machine.
“Oh, no.”
“I want to,” she insists.
“Choose your seats.”
“Thank you sincerely.”
After the movie,
she wondered how we liked it.
“Very much.
Auggie wasn’t the only one with problems.
Siblings, friends, parents
all have grave issues too.
And little acts of kindness
make a big difference in lives.
Thank you again.”

 Thanksgiving has many faces
and comes in different shapes and sizes.
All good.
