Give Him a Chance

My sister’s friend on Facebook, re-posted a diatribe by Tom Langley from Colorado about how people are picking on Donald Trump and not giving him a chance.

One comment was as follows:

President Trump is the greatest American President ever.  He was chosen by God to save America, and to lead the American people back to Him.  Before his first year in office was completed he had set many records, and had accomplished more than the former presidents  had done in their eight years.  He is a positive thinker, and while most or thinking about doing something, he has it completed.  We are proud of President Trump, love and appreciate all that he has done for America and the American people.  He makes us proud to be Americans.

I always thought that if one did not keep God’s commandments, God could not dwell with him.

Let’s just look at the Ten Commandments:

FIRST COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20-3). God desires what is best for you. If you put anyone or anything before Him in your life, you hinder His ability to bless you. God knows that Jesus Christ alone can save you; nothing else has that power. So God asks you to choose Him and His Son first: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:5) 

SECOND COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them” (Exodus 10-4-5). Anything you revere and honor over God constitutes a graven image—human-made objects, secular philosophies, or even time and energy spent on fleeting pleasures. God commands you to worship Him to access the power of salvation through Jesus Christ.

THIRD COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain” (Exodus 20-7) Taking the name of the Lord in vain can have various meanings. The most common meaning is using the names of Deity as profanity. Another is professing to have taken Christ’s name upon you as a Christian and yet not living His gospel.

FOURTH COMMANDMENT:

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God” (Exodus 20-8-10). God asks you to set aside one day a week to worship and rest. The Sabbath is an opportunity to withdraw from worldly pursuits and focus on your spiritual growth. Observing the Sabbath is a sign to God that you remember and love Him.

FIFTH COMMANDMENT:

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee” (Exodus 20:12)  To honor your parents means that you show them respect, directly and indirectly, through your actions. If your parents are good examples, it may be easier to obey, value, and reflect their standards. However, if your parents have not been honorable themselves, you can still choose to keep this commandment by being kind and respectful to them and by living your life in a way that brings honor to your  family name.

SIXTH COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not kill” ) (Exodus 20-13) God values life; each son and daughter is precious to Him. Under normal circumstances, you do not have the right to take someone else’s life. Only in times of war, self-preservation, or other extenuating circumstances would killing be necessary or acceptable to God. As a general rule, God makes it clear that killing is wrong.

SEVENTH COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20-14)  One of the first instructions that God gave Adam and Eve pertained to their marriage relationship: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). When a husband and wife are faithful to each other, they create the best possible environment in which to raise children. Adultery shreds relationships and leaves spiritual and psychological scars on those involved. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul emphasized the importance of keeping the seventh commandment under all circumstances (see Galatians 5:19-21). This commandment has not changed and will never change.

EIGHTH COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not steal” (Exodus 20-15). This commandment encompasses more than just the taking of physical property. It also includes any gain dishonestly acquired. For example, cheating on a time card or failing to disclose income on a tax document is stealing.

NINTH COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20-16) Simply put, this commandment encourages you to speak the truth. “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour”  (Ephesians 4:25). People who misrepresent others or spread rumors about a person’s character bear false witness. “Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips”  (Proverbs (Proverbs 24-28).

TENTH COMMANDMENT:

“Thou shalt not covet . . . anything that is thy neighbour’s” (Exodus 20:17). A person who covets desires something excessively. Simply admiring an item or working hard for an accomplishment is not necessarily coveting. Rather, this commandment cautions you not to make worldly items your priority. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for [God] hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”  (Hebrews 13:5).

#4 – Keep the Sabbath Day Holy. Does God whisper to Donald when he’s on his way to the golf course on Sunday?

What about the lying part?

Just last night at a rally in North Dakota, Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large wrote: Thu June 28, 2018

Just a sampling:

14. "Because, frankly, they find this more exciting than the NFL and a hell of a lot more dangerous, right?"

In which the President of the United States says that he is both more "exciting" and "a hell of a lot more dangerous" than professional football.

And tut tut, we don’t swear if we want the spirit of the Lord to dwell with us.

15. "And I wish those cameras would circle the room to see how many thousands of people are here, because, you know, on the screen I look -- and all you see are those few beautiful, wonderful people -- I don't know who the hell I -- but you've got a nice group over there. I know you have Mike and some others. They're going to be so famous."

Yes, Trump is again talking about crowd size. But his focus on how the people who are behind him in the TV shot will be "so famous" is a window into how he thinks TV = fame. And fame = good.

16. "I said to my people, 'How many people are here?' They said, 'Six thousand in the arena, but we're going to be -- have to, unfortunately, walk 15,000 or 18,000 people that couldn't get in.'"

Crowd size. Crowd size. Crowd size.

34. "I said, 'Oh, I am so smart. I am the smartest person.' My uncle was a great professor at MIT for 40 years. Can you believe? Forty years. I said, 'But I'm smarter than him. I'm smarter than anybody.'"

38. "And one of my biggest critics, a slovenly man named Joe Crowley, got his ass kicked..."

The President of the United States, ladies and gentlemen! Talking like that?

41. "My daughter and my wife, Melania, they love -- they love the women. And the women love them. The women love them. And the men love them."

44. "The fake news was so upset when I said we had a good relationship. We had a good chemistry."

Trump is referring to his relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un here. And, no, the media wasn't "upset" by it. The media did point out, however, that a) Kim murders his own people and b) Trump met with him privately for less than an hour before declaring them great friends.

46. "And I've directed the Pentagon to begin the process of creating a sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, called the Space Force. The Space Force."

SPACE FORCE!!!

50. "We got more money. We got more brains. We got better houses, apartments. We got nicer boats. We're smarter than they are. And they say, 'The elite.'"

Jennifer Rubin with the Washington Post wrote: (Thursday June 28, 2018)

President Donald Trump’s racist outbursts and disdain for our Constitution are, alas, nothing new. On Sunday, he tweeted, “We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. Clear back in October 1942, David O. McKay said in General Conference:

“Satan is making war against…the very foundations upon which society, government, and religion rest…He plans to destroy freedom—economic, political, and religious, and to set up in place thereof the greatest, most widespread, and most complete tyranny that has ever oppressed men. He is working under such perfect disguise that many do not recognize either him or his methods. There is no crime he would not commit, no debauchery he would not set up, no plague he would not send, no heart he would not break, no life he would not take, no soul he would not destroy. He comes as a thief in the night, he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Without their knowing it, the people are being urged down paths that lead only to destruction.. . “
