ABSTRACT: Christians, including Mormons, should consider moral and ethical issues when deciding whom to support in an election. The teachings of Jesus in the four gospels should be an important guide in considering the issues raised in a campaign.
My sisters and I attend this presentation. The presenter is Bill Russell, a professor emeritus of American history and politics at Graceland University. He is a past president of both the Mormon History Association and the John Whitmer Historical Association. (Graceland is owned by the Community of Christ Church. Bill told us two apostles from his church were presenting.) We sit in the middle of the theater and right away notice Bill's T-Shirt: VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Because it hasn't started yet, we call down, "Bill, What else does your T-Shirt say?"
He can't read upside down, she he has someone on the front row read it:
If you want to:
Eat tainted meat
Breathe poisoned air
Drink nasty water
Help only yourself
VOTE REPUBLICAN
Briefly, (he's sending us a copy of his talk), his points were:
1. Poverty.
2. Minimum wage.
3. Tax Policy.
4. Environmental denial of science.
5. Wall in Mexico.
6. Muslims.
7. Civil Rights.
8. Women.
9. Gay Rights.
10.Labor Unions.
11. Capital Punishment.
12. Gun Rights.
