The Sad Case of the Elderly

The yoga instructor at Snowbird
was having us stand on one foot,
bring the other leg up
then reach it straight out front
then swing it back
and take hold of our foot
with our hand
while leaning forward.
I think it's called Dancer Pose.
Sure.
I stood there
doing nothing.
"You should balance everyday,"
she directed.
"I do tree at home."
"Well, do tree now."
Of course, I couldn't.
and I thought:
Lady,
I'm 81-and-a-half years old;
I have a tumor that totally
robbed me of my hearing and balance
on my right side;
I am in treatment for breast cancer;
I am in physical therapy for my
shoulder and knees.
"But, I didn't say anything,"
I brag to Amy later.
"Good, because she doesn't care,"
replied Amy.
"I know."
