One of the great joys of my later life has been to
spend time with my grandchildren - to tell them the stories of my life and of
my times, to share the books of history that taught me.--Dan Rather
I haven’t found this to be true with my grandchildren.
I get the impression both they and their parents think I’m a fool whenever I
tell a story from the past. Maybe if I personally had known six or seven US presidents; been head anchor on CBS evening news for 24 years; written several
books; risked my life as an investigative reporter in Vietnam, Afghanistan or
Pakistan; started a new business at age 75; and at age 85 run an
independent production company, News & Guts, and was worth around 70 million
dollars, they’d be interested. Maybe.
